The Herschel iQ R3 Thermostat is a stand-alone thermostat control unit that works together with the Smart Life App to control your Herschel Infrared heaters. The R3 controller is both a thermostat and receiver combined. The R3 thermostat is wired to both the heaters and mains-power, there is no need for a separate unit within the room.
The R3 senses the temperature in the room, sends data via WiFi to the App, which returns control commands to the heater to switch it on and off according to your heating settings in the App. The R3 will not function properly without WiFi or the App. The R3 Receiver features a convenient 1 hour Boost function – press the Boost button and top up your heating for one hour, regardless of existing App settings. All other control functions are provided from the Smart Life App.
The R3 is ideal where you are looking to control your heaters via App. Simply download the Smart Life App to a phone or tablet and control your Herschel Comfort and Herschel Inspire infrared panel heaters via App, from anywhere in the world with WiFi connectivity, at the top of a button. Herschel Smart Switches can also be added for centralised control of all thermostats, working in conjunction with the Smart Life App. Use the Touch Screen Control Centre for handy, quick and customised control from a central hub. Alternatively, the Four Scene Control will run 4 control functions with just one click.
Herschel iQ R3 thermostat incorporates the latest energy-saving features including Herschel’s open window technology, ensuring your room is always at the right temperature with the least energy use. The Smart Life also allows you to control the system by voice using Alexa or Google Assistant.
The R3 is a 10 amp mains-wired unit and will safely control up to 1.8kW of heating load per unit. It can also be used to trigger a contactor to manager greater heating loads if required.

Note:
Herschel controls will only work with Herschel heaters. Attempted use with any other heater brand will invalidate the warranty.
The R3 is not interchangeable with the R2 or vice versa.
Herschel iQ R3 (App-Only System)
The R3 is a combined thermostat and receiver in one single, hard-wired unit.
How it Works: It has no screen or external thermostat; it senses temperature locally but is entirely controlled via the Smart Life App.
Primary Benefit: It is a "fit and forget" solution that is more cost-effective if you only ever intend to use your phone or voice (Alexa/Google) to manage the heat.
Limitation: It will not function properly without a stable WiFi connection and the app
Herschel iQ R2 (Wireless System)
The R2 is primarily a wireless receiver.
How it Works: It is designed to be paired with a separate T2 Wireless Thermostat (a battery-powered screen you can put on a shelf or wall).
Primary Benefit: It provides a physical control point in the room for guests or family members who don’t have the app.
Multi-Heater Support: You can pair multiple R2 receivers to a single T2 thermostat to control several heaters in one large room as a single zone.
Backup: If the WiFi goes down, you can still control the heating via the physical T2 unit.
The main reason to use the Herschel iQ R2 instead of the R3 is if you want a physical, wireless thermostat unit in the room to change the temperature without using your phone.
