Flexel ECOFOIL Aluminium Heating Mats provide efficient radiant heat for floating laminate and engineered wood floors. Designed for "dry" installation, these mats require no self-levelling compound and are uniquely suited for wet areas like bathrooms where traditional carbon film elements cannot be used. With a low build height of just 7mm when paired with specialized insulation, they offer a quick-to-install heating solution that maintains safety through a continuous metallic earth screen.

EcoFoil Aluminium Heating Mats provide gentle, energy-efficient radiant warmth beneath floating laminate and engineered hardwood floors — even in wet environments like bathrooms and shower rooms, where ECOFILM carbon elements should not be used.

The built-in aluminium layer helps disperse heat evenly across the floor while acting as a protective earth layer, making EcoFoil a safe, effective, and completely dry installation solution for modern homes aiming to reduce heat loss and improve comfort.

Pairing EcoFoil mats with suitable insulation supports lower running costs and faster heat-up times, helping you enjoy a warmer space while reducing wasted energy

ECOFOIL Aluminium Heating Mats provide electric radiant heat under laminates which are installed in wet environments like bathrooms and shower rooms. ECOFOIL underfloor heating mats are made of a heating cable encased in an aluminium foil.

Features
  • Quick Installation – simply roll out the mat and fix to the floor
  • Suitable for use under floating laminate and engineered hardwood floors
  • Fully earthed aluminium foil offers electric radiant heat in wet areas
  • Dry installation – no self levelling compound required
  • Low build height – only 7mm when used in conjunction with ECOMAX Lite insulatio
You can use Flexel foil underfloor heating in a bathroom, specifically as the ECOFOIL range, is designed for wet environments. The fully earthed aluminium foil acts as an earthing grid, making it safe for bathrooms and shower rooms where other types of heating, such as ECOFILM carbon elements, cannot be used.

Key Considerations for Bathroom Installation

Suitability: ECOFOIL mats are designed for use under floating laminate, engineered hardwood, and sometimes vinyl/carpet flooring in wet areas.
  • Safety Requirements: The system must be protected by a 30mA RCD (Residual Current Device).
  • Installation Method: These mats are for dry installation—no self-levelling compound is required.
  • Insulation: Do not install the foil mat directly onto a concrete slab; it must be installed on top of a suitable, soft insulation board to minimize heat loss.
  • Limitations: Do not install the heater under fixed furniture or sanitary ware (toilet, bath), and maintain a 50mm clearance from walls.
  • Thermostat: The thermostat must be located outside the bathroom.

Other Flexel Bathroom Options:

If you are tiling your bathroom floor instead of using laminate, Flexel also offers ECOFLOOR heating mats, which are suitable for use with tile, stone, and marble in bathrooms.

FAQ's

Can EcoFoil be the main heat source?

Yes — in well-insulated spaces, EcoFoil can provide primary heating when correctly sized.

Is EcoFoil suitable for bathrooms?

Yes — the aluminium layer provides full earthing, making EcoFoil safe for wet rooms like bathrooms and shower areas.

More FAQ's below.

Technical Specifications:

  • Operating Voltage: (230V, 50Hz)
  • Heat Output: (140W/m²)
  • Mat Width: 500mm
  • Cold Lead Length: 3m
  • Advanced fluoropolymer heating cables encased in an aluminium foil
Can ECOFOIL be used in bathrooms?
Yes. Unlike some other film-based systems, ECOFOIL is specifically designed for wet environments like bathrooms and shower rooms because its aluminium layer acts as a safety earthing grid.

Do I need to use a self-levelling compound?
No. ECOFOIL is designed for dry installation, meaning it can be placed directly under floating floors without the need for screed or self-levelling compounds.

Is insulation required for installation?
Yes. Flexel recommends installing ECOFOIL on top of a suitable soft insulation material, such as ECOMAX Lite, to improve efficiency and reduce heat-up times. It should never be installed directly onto bare concrete or timber.

Can I cut the mat to fit my room?
During installation, you can cut and turn the foil mat to fit the room's layout, but you must never cut the actual heating cable itself.

What is the total floor build-up height?
When used with 6mm ECOMAX Lite insulation, the total build-up height is approximately 7mm, making it an ideal solution for renovations where floor height is a concern.
