Eco Friendly Heating Loose Wire Underfloor Heating System

The Loose Wire Heating System is designed for flexibility and performance, making it ideal for irregularly shaped rooms or spaces with lots of fixtures and fittings. The ultra-thin heating cable can be laid around corners, sanitaryware, kitchen units, and awkward edges, giving you much more control over cable spacing and heat coverage than a standard mat system.

This system works particularly well beneath ceramic, porcelain, and natural stone tiles, delivering even, comfortable warmth across the floor without significantly raising floor height.

Ideal For

  • Bathrooms, kitchens, hallways, and tiled living spaces
  • Small or awkward rooms where heating mats do not fit neatly
  • Projects where flexible cable spacing is needed around fixtures and fittings
  • Renovations aiming for better comfort and lower running costs

If you are working with a more regular room shape, a StickyMat heating system can often be quicker to install. For tile protection and crack isolation, the DCM-PRO heated decoupling system is also worth considering. For laminate or engineered wood floors, a dry system such as foil underfloor heating is usually more suitable.

To compare the main options, read our Electric Underfloor Heating Systems Collection Guide.

Flexible, Efficient Design

The Loose Wire System is supplied as a complete kit to make installation straightforward. Each kit typically includes:

  • Ultra-thin 1.8mm dual-core heating cable for low build-up installations
  • Primer for preparing timber subfloors where required
  • Fixing tape to secure the cable layout
  • Foam roller for easy preparation work
  • Step-by-step installation instructions

Because the cable is only 1.8mm thick, it is very well suited to refurbishment projects where finished floor height matters. The wire is normally installed into tile adhesive or a thin self-levelling compound, so there is no need for a full screed layer.

Once installed, the system provides a practical, long-lasting, and energy-efficient heating solution for tiled floors.

Reliable Warmth for Every Room

Whether you are heating a bathroom, kitchen, hallway, or another tiled room, the Loose Wire Underfloor Heating System can be used as either a primary or secondary heat source, depending on room insulation, floor construction, and heat loss.

For the best result, it is important to choose the correct cable size and spacing for the room. If you are unsure, use our Underfloor Heating Calculator or contact us for help selecting the right setup.

Floor Finish Compatibility

This loose wire system is designed mainly for use beneath:

  • Ceramic tiles
  • Porcelain tiles
  • Natural stone tiles

For non-tiled finishes such as laminate, engineered wood, vinyl, or carpet, another system is usually a better fit. See our Underfloor Heating Compatibility Guide for more detail.

Why Choose Loose Wire Instead of Mats?

Loose wire underfloor heating is usually the better choice when:

  • The room has awkward shapes or multiple corners
  • You need to heat around toilets, basins, kitchen islands, or fitted furniture
  • You want more control over cable spacing and heat coverage
  • A standard heating mat would create too much waste or be difficult to position neatly

If the room is open and regular in shape, a mat system may still be the quicker option. Read our StickyMat & EcoFloor Heating Mats Guide to compare both approaches.

FAQ's

Is the Warmup undertile loose wire system suitable for all tile types?

Yes. It is suitable beneath ceramic, porcelain, and most natural stone tiles when installed with the correct adhesive and controls.

Can the loose wire system be used under other floor types?

This version is designed specifically for tiled and stone floors. For laminate, engineered wood, vinyl, or carpet, a different electric underfloor heating system is usually recommended.

Do I need insulation boards?

They are strongly recommended. Insulation boards help reduce heat loss into the subfloor, improve warm-up times, and lower running costs.

Is it easy to install?

Yes, especially for awkward rooms. The flexible cable design makes it much easier to work around fixtures, curves, and tight corners than a pre-formed mat.

Does it work with smart heating controls?

Yes. It can be paired with a compatible thermostat and floor sensor for scheduling, temperature control, and better efficiency.

Can it be used as the main heating source?

Yes, in the right room and with the correct output, it can be used as a primary heating source. In other situations, it may work better as supplementary heating.

What is the warranty?

The Warmup Undertile Loose Wire System comes with a Lifetime Manufacturer’s Warranty. This covers defects in the heating cable for the lifetime of the floor, provided the system is installed correctly and registered within the required period.

Key warranty details include:

  • SafetyNet™ Installation Guarantee – if the cable is accidentally damaged during installation before being covered, Warmup will replace it free of charge
  • Conditions – the system must be installed by a qualified contractor and registered within 30 days of purchase
  • Coverage – applies to the heating cable itself

Thermostats usually carry a separate warranty, often 3 years, with some upgrade options available when installed with a Warmup heater.
