What is Infrared Heating?

Infrared heating is a method of heat transfer that uses infrared radiation to warm objects and people directly, rather than heating the surrounding air. It works similarly to how the sun warms the Earth, emitting electromagnetic waves in the infrared spectrum. It does feel like the sun beating down on you and is a very pleasant source of heat.

Infrared heat is a safe, very easy to install and an eco-friendly heating system.

Infrared heating is different from conventional heating systems, which rely on convection to heat the air and then warm up the room. As people and objects begin to warm up immediately with infrared, the air naturally heats up itself and the result is a very pleasant and cosey atmosphere. This is not only economic and environmentally friendly but is also ideal for home us or office/commercial areas where the typical heating system can potentially trigger allergies in people.

How It Works:

  1. Infrared Radiation: Infrared heaters emit electromagnetic waves in the infrared spectrum. This feels just like the warmth of the sun. These waves travel through the air and heat surfaces they come into contact with. When you rub your hands together you are creating infrared heat. Infrared Panels are highly efficient heaters that can be fitted on your ceiling, wall or even hung, almost like a large light fitting.
  2. Direct Heat Transfer: Instead of warming the air, infrared heat is absorbed by objects, walls, and people, which then slowly release the heat back into the environment. As objects and surfaces are directly heated, infrared heating minimizes heat loss through air currents and drafts, whilst the air naturally heats up. Infrared heat works almost instantly. So whether in your home or place of business, you benefit from efficiency and cost saving affects.
  3. Targeted Heating: Traditional heating systems heat the entire spaces. Infrared heaters can be programmed to heat only the areas you're using, thus reducing energy waste and emissions. We supply precision Thermostats with programmable timers. Heating can be adjusted to suit living and occupancy levels of domestic and commercial spaces.
  4. Integrating Renewable EnergySolar panels can be paired with infrared panel heaters and underfloor heating. Using electricity from these systems lets them run with almost no carbon footprint and creates a near-carbon-neutral heating system. This is eco-friendly heating and the green choice for homeowners and businesses.

  5. Zoning and Occupancy Control:
You can set different temperatures for different rooms and have the heat set for specific times of use. You can also adjust heat levels based on occupancy, further optimizing energy consumption. We have a great range of Thermostats that help with zonal heating.
  6. Cost savings – Zero maintenance. with no moving parts panels and underfloor heating utilizing infrared heat is a low carbon solution which benefits net zero goals and business energy saving measures. Ideal for business, Church and home.
  7. Types of Infrared Heaters:
    • Near-infrared (shortwave): High-intensity heat, often used in outdoor patios or industrial applications.
    • Mid-infrared (medium wave): Moderate heat output, used in commercial and domestic settings.
    • Far-infrared (longwave): Gentle, comfortable heat, commonly used in home heating panels and saunas.

Infrared heating is widely used in homes, outdoor spaces, and Industrial applications due to its efficiency and direct heating capabilities.

As the air is not being circulated around the space as is normal with conventional heating, allergens cause by such things as dust mites, tend not to be triggered. In modern OFFICE SETTINGS this can make a huge difference to how comfortable the work environment feels. There are many reported health benefits to using Infrared in the home and office/commercial settings. There is a great article in our blog that covers it more fully.

People tend to enjoy the heat produced by infrared heating more. They say it feels more natural (like the sun beating down on you).

Infrared is very cheap to run. It is the cheapest electric heating available on the market. It is extremely efficient and it is very easy to install. All in all we think it is the heating source for the future for homes, offices and large industrial spaces.
